The Sustainable Scale Up Student Placement Programme

About The Student Placement Programme

In conjunction with Cardiff Business School, the Sustainable Scale Up Cluster piloted a student placement programme which supported students in joining six ambitious Welsh food manufacturing businesses where they delivered a management project ranging in specialisms from HR, supply chain, marketing, general management, and finance.

The six successful students, who were in the second year of their BSc Business Management degree at Cardiff Business School, started with their host businesses in January 2022 for a period of 20 weeks. During their time at the businesses, they gained an understanding of the company, its products, objectives, and the challenges faced by ambitious Welsh food SMEs. The aim of this pilot project was to directly contribute towards the efficiency and/or scalability of the host business. In addition to receiving the support and guidance of the host business, the students were mentored by faculty tutors from Cardiff Business School and by industry specialists within the Sustainable Scale Up Cluster.

"At Cardiff Business School we do a variety different placements. This particular placement is a flagship programme for the school. It was a pilot made possible through the relationship with Linda and BIC Innovation and some funding from the Sustainable Scale Up Cluster. It was a great way for Welsh food and drink SMEs to access the brightest students within Cardiff Business School."
